Drake: Rapper, Actor, Now Art Curator?

One of Canada’s finest accomplishments and former Degrassi star has recently announced that he will curate an exhibition at Sotheby’s this spring in an effort to boost sales for the works of prominent contemporary African-American artists, including Rashid Johnson, Kara Walker, Glenn Ligon, and Jean-Michel Basquiat (as well as almost 20 other artists). The Canadian rapper will now join the likes of Kanye West and Jay-Z as high-profile rappers with an art collection. Although Drake is not being paid to do this, a personal connection within Sotheby’s contemporary art department seems to have been the inspiration for this event, according to the New York Times.

The show will take place April 28 to June 12 at Sotheby’s headquarters in New York. Below are some examples of the artists that will be featured in the show (all of which are visual artists from whom Drake gets inspiration from):
