Meet the New Spider-Man
19-year-old up and coming British actor Tom Holland will be swinging on your movie screens as the new Spider-Man.
Holland is the new kid on the block in the acting world, starring in few previous roles. He began his career in theatre, making his West End debut in Billy Elliot as Michael, Billy’s best friend, back in 2008. He then appeared as Billy regularly, rotating with with three others, until May 2010 when he finished his run.
From here he made his debut on the big screen, starring in The Impossible alongside Ewen McGregor (heart-eyes) and Naomi Watts. The film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Sept. 2012 and made its North American premiere that December.
Holland was also cast as Young Nickerson in the movie In the Heart of the Sea alongside Marvel’s very own Thor, Chris Hemsworth, set to release in 2015.
You can also catch Holland as Gregory Cromwell in the BBC Two’s television mini-series Wolf Hall, taking place in the time of King Henry VIII.
This will be the first time the web-slinging superhero will be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland is playing a teenage Peter Parker in his own self-titled film set for release on July 28, 2017, according to Marvel. According to The Hollywood Reporter there have been rumors that Spidey is appearing in “Captain America: Civil War,” but Marvel has yet to come out and say so themselves, although it’s basically set in stone.
As much as I love the original three Spider-Man movies and I still haven’t seen the Amazing Spider-Man(2), oops, I’m really excited to finally meet an on-screen teenage Peter.
