My Experience with Jane Wants A Boyfriend
This past weekend I went to a film event for the Lower East Side Film Festival 2015. It screened the 2014 film: “Jane Wants A Boyfriend.” This was my first time being apart of a film festival, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I wasn’t sure what to wear or who would be there or what else would have went on besides the event itself.
The event was at the Crosby Street Hotel in the city surrounded by what I like to call “hippie town.” I don’t mean to insult anyone or degrade the area but in my eyes that’s how I saw it. It was a place for expression and a place where people come to New York to make their dreams come true. I also realized that NYU is very close to there.
Everyone who was at the event was 21 or older (well at least most), so I couldn’t partake in the free booze sadly. Anyway, the place where the film was shown looked like a small version of a movie theater. It was cozy and relaxing with a bunch of people ready to appreciate the film being presented to us. It’s sad to say that I don’t have a lot of pictures because I was so caught up in the event that I honestly didn’t think of anything else.
The film, Jane Wants A Boyfriend, was about an autistic woman in her 20s having her own life in NYC and wanting to have a real relationship. She has to get out of her sister’s controlling grasp and figure out what it’s like to fall in love with someone. Jane ends up falling for one of her sister’s friends, who doesn’t care for the fact that she’s different.
I didn’t realize that the movie made was already released and not new. I was hoping they would be showing a new film by an upcoming director, producer, screenwriter, etc. However, I think the event was great as a whole and I would definitely support the Lower East Side Film Festival again next summer!
