President Obama awards Medal of Freedom to Oprah Winfrey
Talk about “living your best life,” If Oprah Winfrey was a basketball player or a singer I would have given her the Grammy for “Best New Artist” or given her an “MVP” trophy. But because she has had so many “Best” years then it really wouldn’t make sense. This year however the stars are simply aligning for Aunty O. Oprah has received her honorary doctorate from Harvard University, dropped her new movie “The Butler” which will be in theaters everywhere August 16th, not to mention her “OWN” television network has been climbing in ratings. If that was not enough Oprah really nailed it when she got the call that she was going to be awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Obama himself. Now if you are asking yourself just what is the “Medal of Freedom” award it is America’s highest civilian honour. The award was created 50 years ago by President John F Kennedy.
“The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours,”
“This year’s honourees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world.
“It will be my honor to present them with a token of our nation’s gratitude.” -President Obama
Like really, my name should have started with an “O” because the O’s are WINNING! It was only a matter of time before Oprah was awarded with this medal. I am more than sure Oprah called her dear sister friend Maya Angelou who also received this prestigious award back in February of 2011 under the Obama administration to tell her the good news. And we all thought the “live your best life” was simply a cute saying clearly it is a mantra that needs to be followed.
I have always personally admired Oprah Winfrey because she is just so great. I mean I could try and list all of the things I love about her but I would need a legal pad, I will say this she he has in my opinion done it her way. I don’t know of another media mogul who went from being a talk show host to literally when she speaks everyone in the room listens no matter how high or low they sit on the totem pole. Her thoughts and ideals cross racial barriers and she offers information and ideas in a way that enriches you as a person. Now I am not saying I agree with everything she says but if there were a such thing as royalty in America she would be sitting on the throne! Congrats to Oprah Winfrey because 2013 is her year, and to think she still has about 4 more months left before 2014 is here, think of how much more stuff Oprah Winfrey can achieve by then.
